On Thursday morning two weeks ago as I took the trash out before leaving for work, I halted mid-motion under the skyscape above. I must admit, I may have looked a little meerkat-like after poking my head out of my burrow (apartment) and then climbing all the way out in response to the “wowness” of the sky.
“What? Oh wow! Just wow… so beautiful!” I breathed.
It was just on sunrise and the clouds were lit with fluorescent pink, orange, and golden flares, and I was in awe. So I took a few photos and then admired them for as long as I could before the time came for me to leave for work, but that wasn’t the end of the story.
On my way into work, the sunrise turned from glowing pinks and oranges to an intense gold—practically the whole sky was gold. And as the golden hue grew in intensity, the cloud formations morphed and mixed. The words “brilliance” and “shining” don’t even begin to describe what it looked like to me. I had never seen anything like it before. Really. I was gobsmacked and goose-pimpled.
All I could hear in my heart was, “Daughter, you are overcome by this natural beauty which is only but a simple reflection of My multidimensional Glory. My Glory is far beyond this. If you think ‘this’ is glorious, you should see what my glory looks like as it shines from your face and the faces of everyone who believes. To those who have yet to see and know that I am good, your faces are like beacons lighting up fractional moments in their stormy worlds!”
Father God continued to speak to me about His children. His shining ones. Those who carry His glory and those who don’t yet realise they carry it.
Imagine what the world might look like if you, son or daughter, recognised that your light has already come and that it adorns your face like a royal decree declaring that you and your king are passing by. Isaiah 60:1-2 says: “Rise up in splendour and be radiant, for your light has dawned and Yahweh’s glory now streams from you! Look carefully! Darkness blankets the earth, and thick gloom covers the nations, but Yahweh arises upon you and the brightness of His glory appears over you!”
If creation is waiting for the sons of God to be revealed, what does that revealing look like? We rattle it off like it is nothing, but a revealing is usually something obvious and of significance.
My best friend and I have had many conversations around the fact that there are days and seasons when we are stared at by total strangers on the street. It has nothing to do with our physical appearance or what we are wearing, but instead, our spiritual countenance. At first it was a little disconcerting to walk down the street and to have people stop and stare, but then we came to the conclusion that the people didn’t realise they were doing it—they just did it. And then one day whilst I chatted with Father God about this, He said to me, “The ones who stare at you, are ready to come awake.”
In furtherance to this line of thought, I conducted an experiment (of sorts) with Father God one day. Roughly two years ago before I boarded a plane to the Gold Coast to visit my mother, I said to Father God, “Could you please show me on this trip away precisely what it is that people are seeing when they stare at my face?” I didn’t realise just how quickly He would join in on my experiment.
On the plane, I sat next to a woman and beside her sat her son. I was in the aisle seat. The woman (who was in the middle seat) struck up a conversation with me and I learned that she owned two fairly successful Asian restaurants, that her husband owned a publishing company, that she had grown up in Australia, and that she had gone to Catholic schools. At the time of her sharing, she was still a devout Catholic who went to mass every week, and her best friends were nuns and priests. She then asked me what I believed (to which I briefly responded), and then she ordered some food and I settled down to read a book.
I am not sure how long after our initial conversation it was, but I became aware of someone staring at me. You know that feeling, right? That feeling where your sixth-sense kicks in and you know that someone’s eyes are on you? Yup. That happened.
I looked up from my book and scoured the plane only to turn to find the lady staring at me through a partial squint, mouth agape, sausage roll in-hand, and seemingly frozen in time. Her son had a similar expression on his face and his gameboy seemed to be squealing at him to return.
Instead of being intrigued I was, quite honestly, tired and a little irritated. “Are you ok?” I asked the lady calmly.
“Your face is so bright!” she exclaimed, shocked. “Why is your face so bright? It’s hurting my eyes! I have never seen anyone’s face shine like your face is shining right now. Why is it shining?”
It was then that I started apologising to Father God for judging this woman. “It’s the light of Jesus,” I smiled. “He is shining through me.”
“Ahhh, that makes sense” she said, wagging her sausage roll in my face before turning back to the rest of her feast.
I heard laughter coming from the Throne Room. “Now do you understand, daughter?”
“Yes, Father. I understand.”
Thing is, there are a lot of us sons and daughters wandering, staggering, and stooping around unaware of the glory we carry—unaware of whose glory we carry.
What IS His glory, anyway?
On the website titled ‘Ancient Hebrew,’ glory is one of several English words that have their root meaning in the Hebrew word kavod (Hebrew: כָּבוֹד) (K-V-D). Kavod means “importance”, “weight”, “deference”, or “heaviness”, but primarily kavod means “glory”, “respect”, “honor”, and “majesty” (Retrieved from https://www.ancient-hebrew.org/definition/glory.htm) If I received a hug for every time someone told me that the glory, presence, or healing power of Yeshua felt “weighty,” I’d be high as a kite on serotonin.
And here’s a further ponderance: People sense the enormity and gravity of who He is, and the glory of His presence, yet they simultaneously fail to realise that they carry His glory (the enormity and gravity of who He is) within themselves… which is odd, because Jesus is God’s glory revealed and His spirit indwells us.
So… a thought: If we have His glory already reflecting from our faces into the world, then maybe all we need to do is to allow it to continue to do so by relenting and letting God be God through us.
The weightiness of His glory is far-reaching—think ripple effects or shockwaves. Every time someone walks by you, son or daughter, if you allow His glory to manifest through you, how many people’s sleeping spirits will witness brilliant lights shining down the darkened hallways of their beings? Our spirits are awake and walking in the light. Their spirits are asleep and have yet to be woken by the light.
If we have truly been crucified with Christ and it is therefore no longer us who live but Christ who lives in us, then who is going to be manifesting through our faces? Our faces are gateways that constantly reveal the narratives we have at play within. What if we truly took Isaiah 60:1-2 at its basest level and stood up and agreed to shine because the glory of the Lord has ALREADY risen upon us?
Hmmm…. this brings me back to the sunrise I witnessed to begin with… in the same way that Exodus 40:34 says, “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle,” have you ever thought much about how you are now His living tabernacle? Yes, you are. That same cloud of the glory of the Lord that filled the tabernacle in Exodus, now indwells you! You are a walking tabernacle filled with the glory of the Lord.
In Matthew 5:16, Jesus said, “So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.”
Go on, I dare you! Do it! Do it! Let yo’ face shine sons and daughters. Give His glory permission to reveal itself through you.
