Softly, Gently

Softly, gently,
I unfurl my wings
And rise on the life of Your breath
Into timeless places
With no beginning and no end,
And I am found in You, Perfect One.
You’re my place of constant rest,
Where I am absent from the stuff, spit and clay
Of my own mess.

Survival—
Time, money, conspiracy, hate;
Your heights have drawn me far from those gates
And realigned my mind
From darkness to light.
In Your pull and draw
To dislodge my affections
From other things,
I see Your jealous heart—
“Daughter, let go of the intrigue of other idols.”

Winds of doctrine
Blow, encircle, shove and pull—
“Look over here at what you shouldn’t do!”
Says the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
But I cannot listen;
Or avert my ears to other gospels
Because I value the treasure within;
That pearl of great price—
That Kingdom realm.

I refocus...
The wind of Your Spirit
Draws me high, higher, higher,
Into Your hope, Your light,
Your revelation fire—
And into Your realms
Filled with life and beauty—
Far beyond the Babylonian and ancient geometric systems
Of measurement below.

***

Softly, gently,
I unfurl my wings
And rise on the life of Your breath
Into timeless realms
With no beginning and no end.
And when my feet again touch the dust
Of earth and mess and clay,
Fear will be gone and
I will step forward in Your love
In complete confidence that I am Your child
And You are my Father...

...it’s that simple.
